As part of a three-day design challenge, myself and information designer Boram Kim, were challenged to develop a high-fidelity prototype of an app experience that promotes awareness and action around well-being and mindfulness to assist senior citizens combatting feelings of isolation and disconnectedness experienced during COVID-19.
Development
Through consultation of design precedents, online and ethnographic research—we learned that our app experience must begin by educating senior users about the impact of isolation and disconnectedness on their mood trends—by reminding them to check and log their mood. To ensure the app experience was intuitive, accessible, and inclusive to all senior users, we included large typeface, provided captions for all images, and used recognizable icons.
Final Concept
Our high-fidelity prototype for a mobile app called RE-Mind helps remind senior users to check and log their mood. Upon logging their mood, users are directed to a page to select what they feel like doing while using this app. Based on their selection, they can choose between various activities that will enable them to achieve this action. We intentionally curated activities to be applicable to an individual’s mood and allow users to practice self-care. As the activities refresh each day, our goal is that by using this app, senior users can reset their mental state and combat their feelings of isolation and disconnectedness. Our app design ensured senior users could easily check in and act on their mental health—providing a better user experience. Our design’s consideration for our user, and accessibility—along with our presentation pitch—resulted in third place in the competition.
